S.W. Basics Toner

It has come to my attention that I've had this S.W. Basics Toner for months and months now, I don't even remember when I bought it but in all that time it's never made an appearance on my blog (at least I don't think so).

The reason being that this simply didn't wow me.. in all honesty it was a bit "meh" for me. I expected incredible things as the ingredients are so simple and effective for treating problem skin, but for me this seemed to fall short.
A few other things put me off too, firstly the smell, apple cider vinegar isn't the prettiest scent but the attempt to cover it with essential oils of sandalwood and clarysage made for quite a funny pong that I just couldn't get used to. That's just personal preference though and shouldn't put you off.
The next one is a bit of a biggie.. when I received my bottle (from A Beautiful World) I opened it up to reveal a seriously rusty lid. I probably should have sent an email to ABW about this as I was quite put off but for some reason I didn't and attempted to clean it as best as I could. The rust was all around the glass top and obviously the inside metal screw top too and after cleaning it, it just kept forming so I had to clean it regularly to stop rust getting into my toner! That packaging is sweet and I understand more ethical than plastic but not very well thought out, acidic ingredients shouldn't have a metal lid that can rust!

I still have a little left in my bottle but I can't bring myself to use this anymore, so sad!

Have you ever been really disappointed with a beauty product?

  1. Oh that sucks, faulty packaging is a big deal to me. I on the other hand love this toner, and have not had a rusty lid. And I have gone through 3 bottles of the stuff in the last few years. Still if that was my first experience I'm pretty sure I would have been put off too xx

  2. Ugh that sucks! I hate the smell of it too...I was tempted to buy it in New York but it just smelt so horrible to me I knew I wouldn't be able to use that on my face everyday haha xx

  3. I love this toner! Despite the smell (which thankfully does not linger), it's been really effective for me who has always had problem skin. It really does keep my blemishes away. It was one of the first natural products that I have introduced in my routine and it hass clearly made a difference.

I noticed the orangey tone on the opening of the bottle -- I just thought it was the vinegar that had dried up, somehow. You've now worried me about rust and I will have to inspect my bottle when I get home tonight.

  4. So disappointing when super hyped products don't work for you. I haven't tried SW Basic's, but I've made homemade ACV toners and never noticed much difference in my skin either. The rust would certainly put me off as well!

  5. I did get on with this toner when I bought it from ABW, but it's the rust that has stopped me from buying it a second time. You're so right - just doesn't make sense to put a metal lid on that thing!

  6. Ooh definitely not good on the packaging front, that's really off putting! The ingredients look fabulous but I'm not sure I'd like the scent very much either xx

  7. I love the cream and the lip balms from them but the toner never really appealed to me, may be worth dropping ABW an email about the rust though to let them know Xx
