I was really surprised to have a February Birchbox* land on my doorstep last week (Or should I say the dreaded red slip for me to go and collect a mystery parcel) and what a lovely surprise it was. I gave up on beauty boxes long ago after Glossybox disappointed me time and again. However from what I see now with reviews every month, things are taking a turn for the better and the contents are really improving, especially with new boxes on the market and the competition for our money well under way..
I really wanted to do a quick post on the contents of the box today, as a green beauty convert I was really pleased to see things I could actually use for once. Plus all the brands are new to me which is always more exciting. This month's theme was London Fashion Week and all the products are designed to be able to slip into your hectic LFW routine and make life a little easier. Along with the samples came a set of style cards with famous quotes, a tutorial for the perfect cat eye and this months Birchbox news.
Onto the actual contents of the box... I received the Urban Veda Radiance Exfoliating Facial Polish, I rarely use facial scrubs, mainly because I don't have any at the moment but I'm excited to give this one a go as it promises to brighten skin with fruit enzymes, plus it smells lovely.
Next up is a little sample of the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil, a nourishing oil with heat protectant. I've never heard of this brand and it seems to be a Birchbox shop exclusive with very little information and no ingredient info at all. The oil itself is very thick and smells of vanilla, I'll give it a go but I doubt it's very natural.
Next up is an Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner in black. I haven't used liquid liner in the longest time and forgot how much I love it! This is really easy to use despite it's tiny size and I'm sure I'll use it up before I finally get around to purchasing a greener version.
Then we have a Leighton Denny nail polish in the shade Leading Lady, a pretty pale pinky mauve. My mum loves Leighton Denny nail polishes so I'll probably use this once to see how I get on with it and then pass it on to her, the formula is 3-free too which is great!
Lastly we have a shower gel from Gilchrist & Soames, another brand I've never heard of. This is the only product in the box that has it's ingredients on the bottle and I can tell straight away it's not very green with the inclusion of SLS. It smells fresh and a little manly and will probably end up in the shower when we forget to purchase any shower gel... again.
Not pictured was a small bar of Green & Blacks dark chocolate which I ate within 10 minutes of opening the box, oops ;)
All in all a great box with a little bit of everything, it's rare to find a box that covers skincare, haircare, body, nails and makeup but this one managed it. If you're thinking about trying Birchbox, new customers can use the code NEW14 for free postage on their first box, always handy!!
Did you get a Birchbox this month?
