A Spotlight on Serums.

Serums... That extra step between toning and moisturising that can really make all the difference in your skincare routine, turning you from drab to fab in 60 seconds (not actually scientifically proven).

Though I have quite a lot of facial oils, moisturisers, toners, cleansers.. etc (I think you got the idea from this post) Serums are something a little new to me in these past few months and I've been really getting into using them religiously to give my skin that little something extra. Serums are technically a lightweight, often water based liquid that are packed full of potent, targeted ingredients, designed to sink in to skin at a deeper level than moisturiser. Think of them as superfood for your skin.

I thought I'd do a little rundown on the serums I've got in my stash at the moment, obviously all are nice 'n' natural as well, surely you would expect nothing less from me and my green beauty ways by now! I'm a full on convert ;)
First up I have a little 10ml sample of the S5 Purity Serum*. I was expecting earth shattering amazing-ness from this little bottle as my chum Jenny swears it has cleared her skin up like nothing else. Unfortunately I haven't been using this religiously enough to see such a change as I kept forgetting I had it! I do have a bit of a breakout at the moment so I'm trying to remember to use it more to help clear up my skin.
Next in line is the Elemental Herbology Cell Food which I picked up in the January sales. Cell Food aims to bring some life to dull skin, but I'm hoping it may help a little with some of my scarring. The formula is packed full of proteins, vitamins and antioxidants to boost skin health leaving you fresh, hydrated and radiant. The creamy serum sinks in easily and I like using it both morning and night as it's one of those products I really feel is doing some good. It's only early days yet but I'll report back with a review soon.

I may have cheated with this next product but in my defence it does say serum in the name. The Kahina Giving Beauty Eye Serum* is my favourite eye product at the moment. Eye creams make me a little uneasy as I am prone to annoying milia (I swear I whine about this every other post but you don't understand how horrible it is) and rich eye creams only make it worse. This serum is incredibly lightweight and cooling on the skin, helping to reduce puffiness and dark circles with argan oil and fancy peptides. I know it's pretty pricey but I'm kind of in love and can see me saving up in a dedicated piggy bank to repurchase this, though hopefully I'm using it sparingly enough that it will last me forever! ;)
I have had the Balance Me Congested Skin Serum for such a long time now and it's my skin saviour when things are getting red and painful. I always find myself reaching for this when all hope has been lost on the face front and it manages to calm down any painful lumps and bumps. The little white bottle is so unassuming that I often forget about this in my stash but it's one of my favourites for troubled skin.
Lastly is the newest member of the pack The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Gel* which smells SO good, like orange zest. This reminds me a lot of Cell Food but in a light gel formula, with aloe juice, vitamin C, sea minerals and herbal extracts this is designed to firm, tone, repair and regenerate the skin, the gel is great for oily skin types but my not-so-oily skin still loves it. This is definitely superfood for your skin and I'll be testing it out more asap.

Do you use a serum in your routine??

  1. My favourite serum is the REN Clearcalm 3 one, but I've noticed it's not quite been working it's magic like it used to recently. I think it needs a little shake-up so I'm going to look at the Balance Me one, it sounds like it'd be great for me!

  3. I'm still very new to serums (actually, I don't own any yet) as I've been researching which to buy. They're so expensive and I don't want to splurge on something I don't end up liking which is why posts like these are so helpful!

  4. Serums are definitely the most low key part of my collection, but I SWEAR by the S5 purity serum...I was in constant breakout city over the humid summer we had, and using this twice a day along with the S5 Balance Fluid had uuuh-mazing results. I think I would find it a bit much for my winter skin but it will definitely make a comeback for me in summer. Only other serum I own is Aurelia's which is great for glow seekers and also helps heal breakouts a touch.

  9. I think with the S5 serum you notice more of a difference when you stop using it! I've bought the small bottle a few times because I can't bring myself to buy the big one. I might try the Balance Me one instead xx

  10. I've never tried serums, unless you count Hydraluron which is a serum, I guess. I'm just starting to build up a working skincare routine, so toners and serums are products I'm starting to look out for.
