Lip Lineup

While I may not be the most daring when it comes to lipstick, I sure am getting better at rocking the red lip as I grow more confident with colour. At the moment I much prefer the deeper plummy red shades over anything too pink, orange or bright... a.k.a scary.

My first point of order every day is lipbalm, I have a tendency to have the worst chapped lips as soon as I forget about lipbalm and so I've been slathering on S.W. Basics Cocoa balm which is AMAZING, better than the Nuxe Reve de Miel by miles.

For just a hint of colour most days I reach for the Soap & Glory *insert longest name ever here* Gloss Stick in Bashful, which is a my lips but better, glossier and pinker kind of colour. Obviously it's not natural or organic like I would like but I'm not going to throw all my older makeup away as that's just wasteful! If I'm feeling a little more daring, or looking for the fanciest lip product I've ever purchased, I choose the ILIA Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights, which looks so scary in bullet form but as you can see from the swatch below is actually very sheer and wearable. It can also easily be built up for a deeper berry lip that I'm slowly working my way towards.
The formula of the ILIA Lip Conditioners is amazing, nourishing with gorgeous colours to boot, I'm so glad I splurged, it's my favourite makeup purchase ever.

For something with a traditional lipstick formula I have the Organic Glam Lipstick in Red* which is very similar to the Ilia Arabian Knights, but obviously much more pigmented. My swatch has come out rather pink but it is a beautiful berry red... I swear. The formula is as nourishing as a lipbalm and the few times I've worn this (around the flat of course, such a glam life) it's lasted well and faded evenly, definitely a top choice should I be attending any christmas celebrations, ooh la la!
Lastly, another lipstick choice is a Vapour lipstick sample I have in the shade Saucy, which is more of a tomato red with an orange tint, I really should have photographed the little sample open but I completely forgot.. oops. I've found the Vapour lipstick to be a lot less moisturising that the previously mentioned choices, but the staying power is good and I really like the colour. I love that you can sample the Vapour lipsticks from naturisimo, more online shops need sampling services!

Are you a lipstick-phobe like me?

  4. I bet you'd look fab in an orange-red! Totally understand your reserve though, I don't think I so much as touched anything remotely coloured for the longest time fearing I'd look too 'done up'. Just build up your tolerance, you'll be sporting a vixen red lip in no time. ;) xo

  5. Sadly I am not a lipstick phone, I actually really love lipstick ;) I find wearing bright shades just around the house can make me feel more confident about wearing them outside :)
